"US dollars are accepted everywhere in Cambodia"
USD is widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but rural areas and small transactions use Cambodian Riel. Carry both currencies.
The Full Story
Cambodia has a dual-currency system. USD is the primary currency for larger transactions, hotels, restaurants, and tourist services. Cambodian Riel (KHR) is used for small purchases, market shopping, and in rural areas. Change under $1 is given in Riel (4,000 Riel ≈ $1). ATMs dispense USD in cities. Torn or damaged USD bills are often refused. Coins are not used.
