Best Time to Visit

Phnom Penh is hot year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season:

• November to February: Best weather—cooler temperatures (24-32°C), low humidity. Peak season for tourists.
• March to May: Hot season—temperatures reach 35-40°C. April hosts Khmer New Year celebrations with water festivals.
• June to October: Wet season—afternoon downpours, but mornings are often clear. November's Water Festival is spectacular.

Unlike Siem Reap where you're outdoors at temples, Phnom Penh's attractions are mostly indoors or have shelter, making it visitable year-round.

• Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda: Stunning 19th-century complex with throne hall, royal gardens, and the Silver Pagoda with its Emerald Buddha. Open mornings and afternoons; dress modestly.
• National Museum: Largest collection of Khmer art and sculpture. Don't miss the pre-Angkorian pieces and Angkor-era statues.
• Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21): Former high school turned prison. Haunting memorial to Khmer Rouge atrocities with preserved cells and photographs.

• Grab/PassApp: Ride-hailing apps are the easiest option. Metered fares, cashless payment available. Download before arrival.
• Tuk-tuk: Classic Cambodia transport. Negotiate fare before riding. $2-5 for most city trips.
• Motorbike taxi (moto): Fastest option for solo travelers. $1-3 for short trips. Helmets often not provided.
• Bicycle: Flat city but chaotic traffic. Some hotels provide free bikes. Not recommended for inexperienced riders.
• Walking: Riverside area is walkable. Sidewalks often blocked; be prepared to walk on roads.
