Cambodia's Labor Law has undergone significant reforms since the 2019 introduction of mandatory seniority indemnity payments and the 2021 amendments addressing the gig economy and remote work. Seniority Indemnity — Common Pitfall
Since 2019, all employers must pay a mandatory seniority indemnity of 7.5 days' wages per year of service, regardless of reason for termination (except summary dismissal for serious misconduct). This is separate from severance pay and cannot be waived by contract. Many foreign employers are unaware of this obligation until faced with a labor complaint.
