Techo International Airport (KTI) — Phnom Penh's New Airport Guide 2026
Complete guide to Techo International Airport (KTI), Phnom Penh's new airport that replaced Pochentong in September 2025. Location, transfers to the city, airlines, arrival tips and FAQ.

    Opened Sept 2025

    Techo International Airport

Phnom Penh's new international gateway, about 20 km south of the city in Kandal province. It replaced the old Pochentong airport (PNH) in September 2025 and now handles all of the capital's international and domestic flights.

Flying into Phnom Penh? Use Techo (KTI), not Pochentong

Since 9 September 2025, all commercial flights for Phnom Penh use Techo International Airport (KTI), about 20 km south of the city. The former Pochentong airport (PNH), 10 km west of the centre, no longer handles scheduled passenger flights. It is farther out than the old airport, so plan for a 45–60 minute transfer by car.

Techo International Airport (KTI) is Phnom Penh's new primary airport. It began commercial operations on 9 September 2025 and was officially inaugurated on 20 October 2025, taking over from the former Phnom Penh International Airport at Pochentong after more than 65 years of service.

Built on a 2,600-hectare site in Kandal province and designed by Foster + Partners, the airport opened with a single 4,000-metre runway (with room for two more) and a first-phase capacity of around 13 million passengers a year, scaling toward 15 million and able to handle the largest aircraft, including the Airbus A380. It is a much bigger, more modern facility than Pochentong — but it also sits farther from the city, so the main practical change for travellers is a longer airport transfer.

What Happened to the Old Airport

The old Phnom Penh International Airport (IATA: PNH), long known as Pochentong, sits about 10 km west of the city centre and served the capital for over six decades. When Techo opened, scheduled passenger flights moved across to the new airport. The PNH code and the Pochentong site remain, and the government has indicated the former airport land will be repurposed, but for trip planning you should treat Techo (KTI) as Phnom Penh's airport.

If an old booking, map, or article points you to “Phnom Penh International Airport” or Pochentong, confirm the airport code on your ticket — inbound and outbound commercial flights now use Techo.

Getting To & From the City

Techo is roughly 20 km south of central Phnom Penh — about a 45–60 minute drive in normal traffic.

    Airport Express Bus

Cheapest option by far. Runs roughly 05:30–23:30. Slower — it makes stops and depends heavily on traffic.

    Ride-hailing (Grab / PassApp / WowNow)

Usually the best value/comfort balance. A standard car runs around $16 depending on your drop-off.

    Official / metered taxi

Fixed-price counters (around $35 / 140,000 KHR to the centre). Use the counter or a trusted app — not drivers who approach you.

    Tuk-tuk

Cheaper than a taxi but a long, open-air ride from this out-of-town airport. Not ideal with heavy luggage.

    Car rental

International partners (e.g. Euro Car) operate desks in the arrivals hall.

    Avoid transport touts

Use the official taxi counter in the arrivals hall or a trusted ride-hailing app (Grab, PassApp, WowNow). Don't accept rides from drivers who approach you inside or just outside the terminal — agree the fare or use a metered/app price first, and expect a longer, pricier trip than from the old in-town airport.

    Airlines & Destinations

The carriers and routes that served the old Phnom Penh airport now operate from Techo, so the network is unchanged — Techo simply became the address. Phnom Penh's strongest connections are to regional hubs, with the most frequent service to and from Bangkok, plus Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Seoul, and long-haul one-stop links via the Gulf (Doha and Dubai). Both full-service airlines and low-cost carriers (such as AirAsia and VietJet) fly the route.

Because schedules and new routes change as the airport grows, check current timetables with your airline or a flight-search site when you book.

    Booking tip

Bangkok has the most frequent connections to Phnom Penh, so it's often the cheapest and most flexible gateway. Compare AirAsia and VietJet for budget fares, and the full-service carriers for one-stop long-haul routings.

    Airport Facilities

    ATMs & Money Exchange

ATMs dispensing USD and currency-exchange counters are available in the arrivals area, along with the major Cambodian banks.

    WiFi & SIM cards

Free terminal WiFi and SIM-card / eSIM counters (Cellcard, Smart, Metfone) for tourist data plans on arrival.

    Food, Shops & Car Rental

Cafés, restaurants and duty-free shopping, plus car-rental desks (e.g. Euro Car) in the arrivals hall. Prices are higher than in the city.

    Arrival Guide

    1. 1
      Arrival card

Complete Cambodia’s arrival card. Cambodia has introduced a digital arrival card (Cambodia e-Arrival) — check the current requirement and complete it before or on arrival.

    2. 2
      Visa on arrival (if needed)

Most nationalities can get a 30-day tourist visa on arrival for $30 in USD cash, plus a passport photo — or arrange an e-Visa online beforehand.

    3. 3
      Immigration

Present your passport and visa; photo and fingerprints are taken, and your passport is stamped.

    4. 4
      Baggage & customs

Collect your bags, then use the green channel if you have nothing to declare.

    5. 5
      Arrivals hall

ATMs, SIM cards, money exchange, car rental and the taxi counter are here — then head to the transport area for your ride into the city.

    Departure Tips

    ⏰ Leave early

Arrive 2.5–3 hours before international flights. Crucially, allow 45–60 minutes (more in rush hour) just to reach the airport — it's much farther out than Pochentong was.

    🛂 Security & departure tax

Standard screening (no liquids over 100 ml in carry-on). Departure tax is included in your ticket price — no separate payment at the airport.
