    Phnom Penh International Airport (Pochentong)

Pochentong served as the capital's airport for more than 65 years. In September 2025 it was replaced for all scheduled passenger flights by the new Techo International Airport (KTI).

Flying to Phnom Penh? Use Techo (KTI)

Scheduled commercial flights no longer use the old Pochentong airport. Since 9 September 2025 they operate from Techo International Airport (KTI), about 20 km south of the city. Check the airport code on your ticket and see our Techo guide for transfers, arrival and facilities.

Is Phnom Penh's old Pochentong airport (PNH) still open?

No. The old Phnom Penh International Airport at Pochentong (PNH) stopped handling scheduled commercial passenger flights when the new Techo International Airport (KTI) opened on 9 September 2025. All flights to and from Phnom Penh now use Techo, about 20 km south of the city — so make sure your ticket shows KTI, not PNH.

    Where Flights Go Now

Phnom Penh's international and domestic commercial flights now use Techo International Airport (KTI), which opened on 9 September 2025 in Kandal province, roughly 20 km south of the city centre. The airline network — regional hubs such as Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong, plus Gulf connections to Doha and Dubai — carried over from Pochentong; only the airport changed.

The most important practical difference is distance: Techo is about 20 km south, versus roughly 10 km west for the old airport, so plan for a 45–60 minute transfer. For current fares, transport options, arrival steps and facilities, use our Techo International Airport guide.

    About the Old Airport

The former Phnom Penh International Airport (IATA: PNH; ICAO: VDPP), long known as Pochentong, sat about 10 km west of the city centre and was for decades Cambodia's busiest airport, handling on the order of 5 million passengers a year in its later years. It offered the widest range of international connections in the country before those routes transferred to Techo.

Because it was close to the city, transfers were short and inexpensive — a convenience the new, farther-out Techo airport trades for much greater capacity and a modern terminal. The Pochentong site and the PNH code remain, and the government has said the land will be repurposed.

    Airport History

    French colonial era

The original airfield at Pochentong was established during French colonial rule, serving the growing city of Phnom Penh and connections across Indochina.

    1975–1979 — Khmer Rouge period

Operations were severely disrupted during the Khmer Rouge regime, and regular international flights ceased.

    1990s — Reconstruction

Following the UN-brokered peace process, the airport was rehabilitated with international support, restoring regular commercial services.

    2000s — Modern terminal

Under a long-running concession (operated as Cambodia Airports), the terminal was modernised and expanded to handle several million passengers a year.

September 2025 — Replaced by Techo

Scheduled passenger flights moved to the new Techo International Airport (KTI), which opened on 9 September 2025 and was officially inaugurated on 20 October 2025, ending Pochentong's run as the capital's commercial gateway.

    Phnom Penh (Pochentong) Airport FAQ
