Internet in Cambodia: Better Than You'd Expect
Cambodia's internet infrastructure has improved dramatically in recent years. Phnom Penh now has fiber connections reaching 300+ Mbps, 5G is rolling out, and tourist SIM cards with generous data cost just $3–5. For digital nomads and remote workers, Cambodia offers a surprisingly capable connectivity environment—especially given the cost of living.
That said, quality varies significantly by location. Phnom Penh is excellent, Siem Reap is good, Kampot is adequate, and the islands are challenging. Plan accordingly if remote work is your lifeline.

Tips for Remote Workers
- Always have backup: Keep a mobile hotspot ready for when fiber drops (rare but happens)
- Test before committing: Check internet speed at a rental before signing a lease
- Use a VPN: Some sites may be throttled or geo-blocked. NordVPN and ExpressVPN work well
- Power outages: Invest in a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for important calls ($30–50)
- Rainy season: June–October can cause more frequent outages from storms
