A remote mega-temple site — the Preah Khan "mother site" with a baray island temple, accessible only in dry season.
Prasat Bakan refers to the central temple within the Preah Khan of Kampong Svay complex. The central prasat is a large sandstone structure with impressive gopura entrances and gallery corridors, surrounded by a massive enclosure wall. The baray (reservoir) to the east contains an island temple (Prasat Preah Thkol) reminiscent of the Western Mebon at Angkor. The entire complex is engulfed by jungle and remains one of the most adventurous archaeological destinations in Cambodia, requiring significant effort to reach but rewarding intrepid visitors with an unforgettable "lost city" experience.
