    Overview

Cambodia's nightlife varies dramatically by city. Phnom Penh has the most sophisticated scene with rooftop bars, craft cocktail lounges, and late-night clubs.Siem Reap's Pub Street is the backpacker epicenter with $0.50 beers.Kampot offers laid-back riverside bars, and the islands have beach party vibes.

Cambodia has no strict closing times, and drink prices are among the lowest in Southeast Asia. Happy hour (typically 4-8pm) can drop prices to $1 cocktails. The local beers — Angkor and Cambodia — are light lagers that pair well with the tropical climate.

    Phnom Penh

The capital has Cambodia's most diverse nightlife scene, from sophisticated rooftop bars to gritty dive bars and underground clubs.

    Bassac Lane

A narrow alley in BKK1 packed with craft cocktail bars, wine bars, and gastropubs. This is where Phnom Penh's expat and young professional crowd hangs out. Think Brooklyn vibes at Southeast Asian prices.

    Riverside

The tourist strip along Sisowath Quay has bars with Mekong River views. More touristy and louder than BKK1. Good for people-watching with a beer at sunset.

    Rooftop Bars

Several hotels and standalone bars offer rooftop experiences with panoramic city views. Cocktails run $6-12 — expensive by local standards but a fraction of Western prices.

    Clubs

Phnom Penh has a growing club scene with venues playing EDM, hip-hop, and K-pop. Most clubs open after 10pm and run until 4-6am. Entry is usually free, with drinks at regular bar prices.

    Best Area

BKK1 (Boeung Keng Kang 1) is the best neighborhood for nightlife. Centered around Street 308 and Bassac Lane, it has the highest concentration of quality bars within walking distance.

    Siem Reap

Siem Reap's nightlife revolves around the famous Pub Street — a pedestrianized strip of bars, clubs, and restaurants that comes alive every night.

    Pub Street

The heart of Siem Reap nightlife. Cheap beers ($0.50-1), loud music, pub crawl groups, and a party atmosphere. Bucket cocktails are popular. Can be overwhelming but is the quintessential backpacker experience.

    Alley West (The Lane)

Just off Pub Street, this narrow lane has more relaxed bars with better cocktails and less noise. A good alternative if Pub Street feels too much.

    Night Markets

Angkor Night Market and Noon Night Market combine shopping with food stalls and bars. Good for a mellower evening with souvenir shopping and street food.

    Angkor & Alcohol

If you're visiting Angkor Wat temples the next morning, pace yourself. Sunrise tickets require a 4:30am start. Nothing ruins Angkor like a hangover.

    Kampot

Kampot's nightlife is the polar opposite of Siem Reap — laid-back, intimate, and centered around the riverside. This is where travelers who prefer conversations over dance floors end up.

    • Riverside bars: Simple bars with hammocks, cold beer, and river views
    • Live music: Several bars host live bands on weekends
    • Craft beer: Kampot has a small but growing craft beer scene
    • Pepper-themed cocktails: Try cocktails made with famous Kampot pepper

    Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville has undergone massive changes. The once-backpacker beach town is now dominated by casinos. However, Otres Beach retains a bohemian beach bar scene for travelers.

    • Otres Beach: Beach bars, fire shows, full moon parties
    • Serendipity Beach: More mainstream bars and restaurants
    • Casino strip: Large entertainment complexes (mainly for Chinese tourists)

    Caution

Downtown Sihanoukville requires more caution than other Cambodian cities at night. Stick to Otres Beach for the best traveler-friendly nightlife experience. Avoid unlit areas and the casino district after dark.

    Islands

    Koh Rong

The main party island. Police Beach has nightly parties with fire shows, DJs, and beach bars. Koh Touch village is the center of action. Cheap drinks and a gap-year crowd.

    Koh Rong Sanloem

Much quieter than Koh Rong. A few beach bars with chill vibes, perfect for sunset drinks and stargazing. The Saracen Bay side has more options.

    Safety Tips

    Do

    • • Use PassApp/Grab to get home — never drive drunk
    • • Keep valuables at the hotel, not on you
    • • Watch your drink at all times
    • • Go out in groups when possible
    • • Carry small bills for paying ($1, $5)

    Avoid

    • • Drugs — Cambodia has harsh drug laws (years in prison)
    • • Walking in unlit areas alone at night
    • • Accepting drinks from strangers
    • • Showing large amounts of cash
    • • Getting on a motorbike while intoxicated

    Drug Warning

Cambodia has severe drug laws. Despite what some bars may suggest, drug use is illegal and penalties include years in prison. "Happy" items on menus (happy pizza, happy shakes) still break the law. Police occasionally target tourist areas.
