Grab & PassApp in Cambodia
Overview
PassApp is Cambodia's dominant ride-hailing app, similar to Uber but locally built. Grab also operates but with fewer drivers. Both apps offer tuk-tuks, cars, and motorbike taxis at metered, non-negotiable prices — eliminating the need for haggling. PassApp is essential for hassle-free transport in Phnom Penh and increasingly popular in Siem Reap.
How It Works
Download PassApp from your app store. Register with your phone number (international numbers work). Set your pickup location and destination, choose vehicle type (rickshaw/tuk-tuk, car, or motorbike), and confirm. Payment is cash or card. The app shows the fare upfront.
💰 Pricing
Ride-hailing prices are metered and fixed — no negotiation needed. Prices are generally 10-20% cheaper than street tuk-tuks.

💡 Tips
- • Download PassApp before arriving — it's more popular than Grab in Cambodia
- • Buy a local SIM card first (Cellcard or Smart, $2-3) for data to run the app
- • PassApp "rickshaw" option is a tuk-tuk — the cheapest motorized option
- • Motorbike option is cheapest but requires a helmet (drivers carry one for passengers)
- • Cash payment is more reliable — some drivers prefer not to accept cards
- • If a driver cancels, re-request immediately — it usually connects quickly
⚠️ Safety Notes
- • Rides are GPS-tracked and drivers are identified — safer than random street hails at night
- • Share your trip with a friend using the in-app feature
- • Check the driver's rating before confirming — avoid drivers below 4 stars
