Cambodia's tropical climate means it's warm year-round, but the experience varies dramatically depending on when you visit. This month-by-month guide helps you choose the perfect time based on your priorities — whether that's ideal weather, lower prices, or unique festivals.

Cool Dry Season: November to February

This is Cambodia's peak tourist season and for good reason. Temperatures hover between 25–30°C with low humidity and virtually no rain. It's the most comfortable time to explore Siem Reap's temples and enjoy outdoor activities.

November brings the spectacular Water Festival (Bon Om Touk) in Phnom Penh, with boat races on the Tonle Sap river. December and January are the coolest months, perfect for active sightseeing. February starts warming up but remains pleasant.

The downside? Higher prices and larger crowds, especially at Angkor Wat during Christmas and New Year.

Hot Season: March to May

March through May is Cambodia's hottest period, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C and sometimes reaching 40°C in April. Humidity increases as the season progresses.

While uncomfortable for temple hopping, this season has its advantages. Crowds thin significantly, prices drop, and Khmer New Year in mid-April offers an unforgettable cultural experience with water fights, temple visits, and family celebrations across the country.

Rainy Season: June to October

Cambodia's rainy season is misunderstood by many travelers. Rain typically falls in heavy but short afternoon downpours lasting one to two hours. Mornings are usually clear and sunny, making early temple visits perfectly feasible.

The landscape transforms into lush, vibrant green. Tonle Sap Lake expands dramatically, and waterfalls reach their full power. It's arguably the most photogenic time to visit. Accommodation prices drop 30–50%, and you'll share major attractions with far fewer tourists.

September and October bring Pchum Ben, one of Cambodia's most important religious festivals, when families honor deceased ancestors across 15 days of ceremonies.
