Cambodia 7-Day Itinerary: Temples, City & Coast

One week in Cambodia covers temples, the capital, AND the charming riverside town of Kampot. Here's the perfect 7-day route.

What's the best 7-day Cambodia itinerary?

The classic 7-day route: Siem Reap (3 days) → Phnom Penh (2 days) → Kampot (2 days). This covers temples, history, and the relaxed coastal scene.

    • Days 1–3: Siem Reap (Angkor Wat, floating village, circus)
    • Days 4–5: Phnom Penh (Royal Palace, Killing Fields, markets)
    • Days 6–7: Kampot (pepper farms, Bokor Hill, river sunset)
    • Total budget: $300–700 mid-range

Seven days unlocks Cambodia's three essential experiences: the ancient temples of Angkor, the complex capital of Phnom Penh, and the idyllic riverside charm of Kampot. This itinerary balances culture, history, and relaxation.

Days 1–3: Siem Reap & Angkor

Follow the 3-day Siem Reap itinerary: Angkor sunrise, Small Circuit, Grand Circuit, Banteay Srei, floating village, and Phare Circus. Buy the 3-day pass ($62).

    Days 4–5: Phnom Penh

Fly or bus from Siem Reap. Day 4: Royal Palace, National Museum, riverside evening. Day 5: S-21, Killing Fields, Russian Market. See the 5-day itinerary above for full details.

    Day 6: Kampot — Pepper & Sunsets

Morning — Bus to Kampot. Giant Ibis departs at 8am, arriving by 11am ($8). The Phnom Penh to Kampot route is an easy, scenic ride.

Afternoon — Kampot Pepper Farm Tour. Visit La Plantation or Sothy's Pepper Farm. Kampot pepper is considered the world's finest — you'll taste fresh green, red, black, and white peppercorns and learn about the centuries-old cultivation tradition. Tours run $5–15.

Sunset — Riverside drinks. Kampot's riverside at sunset is magical. Grab a hammock at a riverside bar, order a cocktail ($3–4), and watch the sky turn orange over Bokor Mountain. This is peak Cambodia relaxation.

Evening — Kampot night market. Fresh seafood and Khmer BBQ at local prices. The town has a wonderful, mellow nightlife scene with live music bars.

Day 7: Bokor Hill & Kep

Morning — Bokor Hill Station. Rent a motorbike ($7–10/day) or arrange a tour ($20–25) to this abandoned French hill station at 1,080m. The road up is spectacular with panoramic coastal views. Explore the old casino, church, and palace shrouded in mist. The cooler temperatures are a welcome relief.

Afternoon — Kep Crab Market. Drive 25 minutes to Kep for the famous crab market. Fresh Kampot pepper crab ($5–8) is a must — widely considered Cambodia's best dish. The market is right on the waterfront with stunning island views.

Late afternoon — Kep National Park. A quick 1-hour trail through the park offers gorgeous coastal views. Well-maintained paths, moderate difficulty. End with a sunset swim at Kep Beach.

Evening — Return to Kampot or bus to Phnom Penh. If departing the next day, return to Kampot. Or take an evening bus back to PP (3 hours) for early morning flights.

    Budget Breakdown (7 Days)

    Budget ($300–400): Hostels/guesthouses $5–12/night, street food $5–10/day, local transport $10–15/day, Angkor pass $62, intercity buses $25–35 total.

    Mid-Range ($500–700): Hotels $30–50/night, restaurants $12–20/day, tuk-tuks and taxis $15–25/day, internal flight SR→PP $80, tours $30–50.
