Getting There
- Veal Veng is approximately 180 km from Pursat town, deep in the Cardamom Mountains.
- The road from Pursat is rough laterite — 4WD or sturdy motorbike required (5-7 hours).
- Most visitors arrange transport through their tour operator or the CBET coordinator.
- From Phnom Penh: bus to Pursat (4 hours), then arranged 4WD transport (5-7 hours).
- The journey itself is part of the adventure — river crossings, mountain passes, and increasingly dense forest.
What to Bring
- Sturdy hiking boots — essential, not optional. Trails are muddy, steep, and crossed by streams.
- Hammock and tarp (or confirm that the CBET provides them — most do).
- Long pants and long sleeves for leech protection — leeches are guaranteed in wet conditions.
- DEET insect repellent and a head net for evening use.
- Headlamp with spare batteries.
