Prasat Neang Khmau ("Black Lady Temple") is a small pre-Angkorian temple located in the center of Takeo town. Dating to the 6th or 7th century, it is among the oldest stone structures in Cambodia. The temple is built of laterite and brick, which has darkened to a deep black color over the centuries — giving rise to its name and various local legends about a "black lady" spirit. Despite its modest size, the temple is historically significant as evidence of the Funan and early Chenla periods of Khmer civilization. The temple sits in a small park and is easily accessible while visiting Takeo Province.
