Koh Rong Nightlife Guide
Cambodia's party island delivers beach bars, DJ nights under the stars, and one of nature's most magical experiences—swimming in bioluminescent plankton that glow electric blue in the dark.
Overview
Koh Rong is split between party and peace. The Koh Touch pier area and Police Beach are where the action is—beach bars pumping music until late, fire dancers, and a revolving cast of backpackers. Long Beach on the opposite coast is quiet, nature-focused, and asleep by 10 PM. Choose your side wisely.
Koh Touch / Police Beach
This compact area packs several beach bars into a short stretch of sand. The atmosphere peaks after sunset when bars compete with speakers, fire shows start, and travelers migrate between venues. It's not Ibiza—it's more intimate, more tropical, and significantly cheaper.
Best Bars
Sky Bar
The main party venue on Koh Touch/Police Beach. DJ nights, fire shows, and the biggest crowds on the island.
Nest Beach Club
Relaxed daytime, party atmosphere at night. Swing seats, ocean views, and regular themed nights.
Coco's
Budget-friendly bar with cheap drinks and a backpacker crowd. Pool table and beer pong.
Long Beach bars
Quieter alternative. Sunset drinks with 7 km of empty beach. Most bars close early—this is the chill side of Koh Rong.
Parties & Events
- Weekly parties: Sky Bar hosts the biggest regular events—usually Wednesday and Saturday nights
- Full moon parties: Occasional, not as regular as Thailand's. Check "Koh Rong Cambodia" Facebook group for dates
- High season events: November–April sees the most activity. Themed nights, DJ events, and holiday parties
- Rainy season: June–September is much quieter. Some bars close entirely. But if you're there, the intimate vibe is special
Bioluminescent Plankton
Koh Rong's most magical nightlife doesn't happen in a bar—it happens in the ocean. Bioluminescent plankton light up electric blue when disturbed, turning every movement in the water into a light show.
Best Conditions
Best time: New moon nights (darkest skies). Best months: Year-round but most spectacular June–October. Where: Any beach away from bar lights. Long Beach is ideal. Wade in and splash—the water glows around you.
Drink Prices
| Drink | Price |

Safety
- No hospital on the island — serious injuries require a boat to Sihanoukville. Don't take unnecessary risks
- Don't swim drunk — the ocean is unforgiving, especially at night with no lifeguards
- Use a flashlight walking home — paths between bars and accommodation are dark and uneven
- Stay hydrated — tropical heat + alcohol + dancing = dehydration risk
- Secure valuables — lock things in your room. Most accommodation has basic safes
