Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI) is Cambodia's newest and most modern airport, having opened on October 16, 2023. Built with a $1.1 billion investment from China's Yunnan Investment Holding Group, the airport replaces the old Siem Reap International Airport (REP) which served travelers for decades.

The new airport features a stunning design inspired by Angkorian architecture, with a terminal building that echoes the grandeur of the temples it serves. With an initial capacity of 7 million passengers annually (expandable to 12 million), state-of-the-art facilities, and improved runway capabilities for larger aircraft, SAI positions Cambodia as a premier destination for temple tourism.

    Airport History

Following the peace process, international tourism resumed. The old airport underwent renovations to handle growing visitor numbers to Angkor.

    2017 - New Airport Announced

Cambodia and China signed a $1.1 billion Build-Operate-Transfer agreement for a new international airport, with Yunnan Investment Holding Group as the lead developer.

    2017-2023 - Construction

Six years of construction transformed agricultural land 40 km from Siem Reap into a world-class airport facility with Angkorian-inspired architecture.

    October 16, 2023 - Grand Opening

The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport officially opened, receiving its first commercial flights. The old REP airport closed the same day.

    2025-2026 - Expansion Plans
