    Poipet – Aranyaprathet

Normally the busiest Cambodia–Thailand crossing on the Bangkok–Siem Reap route, and long notorious for scams. Currently closed.

    This crossing is currently closed

The Thailand–Cambodia land border has been closed since the 2025 conflict and remained closed through the latest 2026 reports. You cannot use this crossing right now — fly between the two countries instead. See our Thailand–Cambodia border status guide for the current position. The details below describe the normal process for when it reopens.

    Overview

Poipet–Aranyaprathet is normally Cambodia's busiest land border and the classic overland link between Bangkok and Siem Reap. It is also the most scam-prone crossing in the country. Note the 2026 status: Thailand closed all land crossings with Cambodia during the 2025 border conflict and they remained closed through the latest reports — so this crossing is not currently usable. The details below describe the normal process for when it reopens.

    2. 2Complete Thai exit formalities
    3. 3Walk across to the Cambodian side at Poipet
    4. 4Get an e-Visa (pre-arranged) or Visa on Arrival — the tourist visa is exactly $30 USD
    5. 5Clear Cambodian immigration (photo + fingerprints)
    6. 6Continue to Siem Reap by bus or shared taxi (~2.5–3 hours)

    Transport

Direct Bangkok–Siem Reap buses (Giant Ibis, Nattakan) normally handle the whole trip. Independently: bus/train to Aranyaprathet, cross on foot, then Poipet–Siem Reap taxi or bus.

    Tips

    • •Ignore anyone offering "visa services" before the official immigration booth
    • •The tourist visa is $30 USD — nothing more
    • •Get stamped only at the official counter
    • •Avoid touts promising "free" transport to commission hotels

    Scam awareness

HIGH — fake "visa offices" and transport touts before the real border. Use only official immigration counters, and see our Cambodia scams guide.

    Poipet – Aranyaprathet FAQ

No. Thailand closed all land crossings with Cambodia during the 2025 conflict and they remained closed through the latest 2026 reports. Fly between the countries instead and check our Thailand–Cambodia border status guide before planning any crossing.
