A beautiful royal bathing reservoir with an ornamental landing stage — one of Angkor's finest sunrise spots.

Srah Srang (meaning "Royal Bath") is a 700 by 300-meter artificial reservoir located east of Banteay Kdei. While technically not a temple, its ornamental sandstone landing stage (terrace) flanked by naga balustrades and guardian lions makes it one of the most photogenic and peaceful sites in the Angkor Archaeological Park. The reservoir was originally built in the 10th century but was significantly enlarged and embellished by Jayavarman VII in the 12th century. At sunrise, the water reflects the sky in spectacular fashion, and the landing stage provides a perfect foreground for photography. Local children often swim in the reservoir in the late afternoon, creating charming everyday scenes.
