A small, elegantly restored Hindu temple with beautiful devata carvings — one of a pair flanking the Victory Gate road.
Thommanon is a small but perfectly formed Hindu temple situated just east of Angkor Thom's Victory Gate. Along with its "twin" Chau Say Tevoda directly across the road, it creates a symmetrical pair flanking the ancient Royal Way. The temple was built during the reign of Suryavarman II and is dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. Despite its small size, Thommanon has been extensively restored by the EFEO and features some of the most beautiful devata (celestial female) carvings in the Angkor region. The devatas here are particularly graceful, with elaborate hairstyles, jewelry, and flowing garments rendered in exceptional detail.
