    Phnom Kulen National Park

Phnom Kulen is Cambodia's most sacred mountain and the legendary birthplace of the Khmer Empire. In 802 AD, King Jayavarman II declared independence from Java on this mountaintop, establishing the Angkorian dynasty. Today the park combines deep spiritual significance with natural beauty — visitors can see the famous River of a Thousand Lingas, a giant reclining Buddha, and cool off in cascading waterfalls. It's a perfect day trip from Siem Reap that goes beyond the Angkor temples.
