Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve

Tonle Sap is Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake and one of the most productive inland fisheries in the world. Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997, the lake undergoes a remarkable seasonal transformation — expanding from 2,500 km² in the dry season to over 16,000 km² during the monsoon floods. This unique hydrology supports extraordinary biodiversity, floating villages, and fishing communities that have lived on the water for centuries.
