    Overview

Danish citizens require a visa to enter Cambodia. There is no visa-free arrangement, though Denmark is active in Cambodian development through Danida. Cambodia is a popular winter escape for Danes seeking warm weather, ancient temples, and affordable living.

The Scandinavian backpacker tradition makes Cambodia a well-trodden destination for Danish travellers. Siem Reap (Angkor Wat), Phnom Penh, and the southern islands are the most visited areas. The country offers excellent value compared to European destinations.

Most Danish tourists use either the e-Visa (applied online before departure) or Visa on Arrival (obtained at airports and major land borders). Both provide a 30-day Tourist Visa.

    Nordic Cooperation

In Cambodia, Danish citizens can receive consular assistance from the Swedish Embassy (No. 12, Street 352) or Norwegian Embassy (No. 8, Street 352) in Phnom Penh under Nordic cooperation agreements.

    Getting to Cambodia from Denmark

No direct flights exist from Denmark to Cambodia. Total travel time is typically 14-18 hours including layovers.

    Recommended Routes

    • Copenhagen → Bangkok → Phnom Penh/Siem Reap: Thai Airways or SAS to Bangkok, then Bangkok Airways or AirAsia onward. Most popular and often cheapest route (~14-16 hours total).
    • Copenhagen → Singapore → Phnom Penh: SAS or Singapore Airlines. Excellent connections (~15-17 hours).
    • Copenhagen → Dubai/Doha → Phnom Penh: Emirates or Qatar Airways. Premium service with good layover facilities (~15-18 hours).

    Approximate Costs

    • Economy return: DKK 4,500-7,000 (book 2-3 months ahead)
    • Best prices: Shoulder season (March-May, September-October)
    • Budget tip: Norwegian Air or Wizz Air to a hub like Dubai, then budget carrier onward

    Border Crossing Tips

    Best Entry Points

    • Phnom Penh Airport (PNH): Most international flights arrive here. VOA queue typically 20-40 minutes.
    • Siem Reap Airport (REP): Ideal if heading to Angkor Wat. Smaller airport, faster processing.
    • Poi Pet (Thai border): Common for overland travellers from Bangkok. Use e-Visa to skip VOA queues.

    E-Visa vs Visa on Arrival

For Danish travellers, the e-Visa is recommended. It costs $6 more but eliminates queuing at immigration. During peak season (November-February), VOA queues can exceed 45 minutes. The e-Visa is accepted at all airports and major land borders.

    Practical Tips

    • Bring clean, unmarked US Dollar bills — torn or old notes are often rejected
    • Have a passport photo ready (4x6cm) for visa on arrival
    • Complete the arrival card on the plane to save time
    • Print e-Visa approval letter in two copies

    Health & Insurance

    Recommended Vaccinations

    • Routine: Hepatitis A, Typhoid (strongly recommended)
    • Recommended: Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria booster
    • Consider: Japanese Encephalitis (rural areas), Rabies (extended stays or animal contact)
    • Malaria: Prophylaxis for remote border regions only; not needed in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or coast

    Travel Insurance

The Danish sundhedskort (health card) does not cover treatment in Cambodia. Comprehensive private travel insurance is essential.

    • Ensure coverage includes medical evacuation to Bangkok (nearest advanced care)
    • Minimum recommended: DKK 1,500,000 medical coverage
    • Popular Danish providers: Gouda, Europaeiske ERV, Alm. Brand

    Healthcare Agreement

Denmark has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Cambodia. All medical costs are out-of-pocket. Royal Phnom Penh Hospital and Naga Clinic offer reliable English-speaking care.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Danish citizens can get a Tourist Visa via e-Visa ($36) or visa on arrival ($30). The standard stay is 30 days, extendable once for 30 additional days.
