    Overview

Swiss citizens require a visa to enter Cambodia. There is no visa-free arrangement, though Switzerland has strong development ties with Cambodia through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which has maintained programmes in Cambodia since 1996.

Cambodia is a popular destination for Swiss travellers seeking cultural depth, ancient temples, and adventure in Southeast Asia. The country offers excellent value compared to Switzerland, with Angkor Wat, the Mekong river system, and pristine coastal areas as key draws.

Most Swiss tourists use either the e-Visa (applied online before departure) or Visa on Arrival. Both provide a 30-day Tourist Visa.

    Swiss Embassy

Switzerland has an embassy in Phnom Penh at No. 95, Street 286. Phone: +855 23 213 694. Register your trip with the Swiss FDFA Itineris app before departure.

    Getting to Cambodia from Switzerland

There are no direct flights from Switzerland to Cambodia. Most travellers connect through major Asian or Middle Eastern hubs.

    Recommended Routes

    • Zurich → Bangkok → Phnom Penh/Siem Reap: SWISS or Thai Airways to Bangkok, then Bangkok Airways onward. Most popular route (~13-15 hours total).
    • Zurich → Singapore → Phnom Penh: Singapore Airlines or SWISS. Excellent service (~14-16 hours).
    • Geneva → Dubai → Phnom Penh: Emirates via Dubai. Good connections (~15-17 hours).
    • Zurich → Doha → Phnom Penh: Qatar Airways. Premium one-stop service (~14-16 hours).

    Approximate Costs

    • Economy return: CHF 700-1,200 return (book 2-3 months ahead)
    • Best prices: Shoulder season (March-May, September-October)

    Border Crossing Tips

    Best Entry Points

    • Phnom Penh Airport (PNH): Most international arrivals. VOA queue 20-40 minutes.
    • Siem Reap Airport (REP): Ideal for Angkor Wat visits. Smaller, faster processing.
    • Poi Pet (Thai border): Common for overland from Bangkok. E-Visa strongly recommended.

    E-Visa vs Visa on Arrival

For Swiss travellers, the e-Visa is recommended. It costs $6 more but saves time at immigration, especially during peak season (November-February). The e-Visa is accepted at all airports and major land borders (Poi Pet, Bavet, Cham Yeam).

    Practical Tips

    • Bring clean, post-2006 US Dollar bills — torn or marked notes are rejected
    • Have a passport photo ready (4x6cm) for visa on arrival
    • Print e-Visa approval letter in two copies
    • Complete the arrival card on the plane to save time

    Health & Insurance

    Recommended Vaccinations

    • Routine: Hepatitis A, Typhoid (recommended by Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute)
    • Recommended: Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria-Polio booster
    • Consider: Japanese Encephalitis (rural areas), Rabies (extended stays)
    • Malaria: Prophylaxis for remote border regions; not needed in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or coast

    Travel Insurance

Swiss mandatory health insurance (KVG/LAMal) provides limited coverage abroad. Supplementary travel insurance is strongly recommended for Cambodia.

    • Ensure coverage includes medical evacuation to Bangkok (nearest advanced care)
    • Minimum recommended: CHF 300,000 minimum medical coverage including evacuation to Bangkok
    • Popular providers: Helsana, CSS, TCS, Allianz Travel, Zurich

    Healthcare Agreement

Switzerland has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Cambodia. Basic KVG covers emergencies at Swiss rates (often insufficient). Get supplementary coverage.

    Frequently Asked Questions
