    Overview

Italian citizens require a visa to enter Cambodia for tourism, business, or any other purpose. There is no visa-free arrangement between Italy and Cambodia, though Italy maintains an embassy in Phnom Penh and the two countries have growing cultural and economic ties.

Cambodia is increasingly popular with Italian travellers as part of Southeast Asian itineraries. The country offers a unique combination of ancient Khmer temples, French colonial heritage (which resonates with European visitors), vibrant street food culture, and pristine coastal areas.

Most Italian tourists use either the e-Visa (applied online before departure) or Visa on Arrival (obtained at airports and major land borders). Both provide a 30-day Tourist Visa.

    Italian Embassy

Italy has an embassy in Phnom Penh at No. 445 Monivong Boulevard. Phone: +855 23 726 036. Register your trip with the Farnesina Dove Siamo nel Mondo app before departure.

    Approximate Costs

    • Economy return: EUR 550-850 (book 2-3 months ahead)
    • Best prices: Shoulder season (March-May, September-October)
    • Budget tip: Low-cost carriers to a hub (Dubai, Istanbul) then onward

    Border Crossing Tips

    Best Entry Points

    • Phnom Penh Airport (PNH): Most international arrivals. VOA queue 20-40 minutes.
    • Siem Reap Airport (REP): Ideal for Angkor Wat. Shorter queues than Phnom Penh.
    • Poi Pet (Thai border): Popular for overland from Bangkok. E-Visa recommended.

    E-Visa vs Visa on Arrival

For Italian travellers, the e-Visa is recommended. It costs $6 more but eliminates queuing at immigration. During peak season (November-February), VOA queues can exceed 45 minutes.

    Practical Tips

    • Bring clean, post-2006 US Dollar bills — torn or marked notes are rejected
    • Have a passport photo ready (4x6cm) for visa on arrival
    • Print e-Visa approval in two copies
    • Complete the arrival card on the plane to save time

    Health & Insurance

    Recommended Vaccinations

    • Routine: Hepatitis A, Typhoid (strongly recommended)
    • Recommended: Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria booster
    • Consider: Japanese Encephalitis (rural areas), Rabies (extended stays)
    • Malaria: Prophylaxis for remote border regions only; not needed in main tourist areas

    Travel Insurance

The Italian Tessera Sanitaria and EHIC do not provide coverage in Cambodia. Comprehensive private travel insurance is essential.

    • Ensure coverage includes medical evacuation to Bangkok
    • Minimum recommended: EUR 250,000 medical coverage
    • Popular Italian providers: Europ Assistance, Allianz Travel, AXA, Generali

    Healthcare Agreement

Italy has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Cambodia. All medical costs are out-of-pocket or through private insurance. Royal Phnom Penh Hospital offers Western-standard care.
