    Overview

Spanish citizens require a visa to enter Cambodia. There is no visa-free arrangement between Spain and Cambodia. Cambodia is increasingly popular with Spanish travellers as part of Southeast Asia itineraries, drawn by ancient Khmer heritage, tropical beaches, and very affordable prices.

Spain and Cambodia share some cultural parallels through their respective colonial histories in the region. French colonial architecture in Phnom Penh and the Mekong Delta offer a fascinating contrast to the ancient Khmer temples at Angkor.

Most Spanish tourists use either the e-Visa (applied online before departure) or Visa on Arrival (obtained at airports and major land borders). Both provide a 30-day Tourist Visa.

    Consular Services

Spain has an honorary consulate in Phnom Penh. For full consular services, contact the Spanish Embassy in Bangkok: +66 2 661 8284. Register your trip at registroviajeros.exteriores.gob.es.

    Border Crossing Tips

    Best Entry Points

    • Phnom Penh Airport (PNH): Most arrivals. VOA queue 20-40 minutes.
    • Siem Reap Airport (REP): Best for Angkor Wat visits. Shorter queues.
    • Poi Pet (Thai border): For overland from Bangkok. E-Visa recommended.

    E-Visa vs Visa on Arrival

For Spanish travellers, the e-Visa is recommended. It costs $6 more but saves significant time, especially during peak season (November-February). The e-Visa is accepted at all airports and major land borders.

    Practical Tips

    • Bring clean, post-2006 US Dollar bills — torn or marked notes are rejected
    • Have a passport photo ready (4x6cm) for visa on arrival
    • Print e-Visa approval in two copies
    • Complete the arrival card on the plane to save time

    Health & Insurance

    Recommended Vaccinations

    • Routine: Hepatitis A, Typhoid (strongly recommended)
    • Recommended: Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria booster
    • Consider: Japanese Encephalitis (rural areas), Rabies (extended stays)
    • Malaria: Prophylaxis for remote border regions only; not needed in tourist areas

    Travel Insurance

The Spanish Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE/EHIC) does not provide coverage in Cambodia. Private travel insurance is essential.

    • Ensure coverage includes medical evacuation to Bangkok
    • Minimum recommended: EUR 250,000 medical coverage
    • Popular Spanish providers: MAPFRE, Intermundial, IATI Seguros, Chapka

    Healthcare Agreement

Spain has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Cambodia. All medical costs are out-of-pocket or through private insurance.
